Location

Where are we - well pretty near the sea!

The club is situated on the beach at Uphill, a scenic historic village about two miles along the sea front from Weston Super Mare (51 deg 19.25'N 2 deg 59.5'W). Uphill is a small village on the south side of Weston Bay, which extends beween Brean Down to the south, Birnbeck Island and the old pier to the north.

This area of the Bristol Channel is a popular tourist area, with all kinds of water sports held nearer the shore. Uphill has a long history of prehistoric settlements, piracy, sea trading and in the last century, quarrying.

During the summer, visitors come to Uphill to enjoy the beach or a walk on the Mendip Way. On the hill behind the village is the ancient church of St. Nicholas which is still in use - and the remains of the old windmill which can be seen from Weston beach. There are two attractive old pubs in the village within easy walking distance of the beach. These are The Ship and The Dolphin

Our recently refurbished clubhouse.

FINDING THE CLUB BY SEA (River Axe Navigation Marks)

With care, the Axe can be entered on the flood from half tide. The initial marks, until well into the river, are all port-hand marks.

The new buoyage has now been installed on the Axe Approach - see link here for more details ( Aug 08 )

The outer mark is the Juicy Buoy, now a new Red/White safewater buoy, with light. From there steer towards Black Rock. The port side of the channel is marked by withies and, depending on the rise, the tips of these will be seen and should be left close to port.

The next marks are three red porthand cans - which mark the dogleg bend.
The channel marked by the withies curves to starboard towards these buoys which should be rounded close to port.

This info is currently being updated due to the new buoyage
