The River Axe
The entrance to the River Axe is guarded by a dog leg which is buoyed and the bank is higher to the north. There are perches along the bank as you pass Black Rock and then mooring buoys mark the channel.
The club house can be seen to the north just before Uphill Pier where there is a pontoon for visitors to tie up. Continuing up the river you will come to a fork where the river bears away to the south and to the north, The Pill leads to Uphill Wharf and the boat yard.
Visitors have several options if they wish to stay over low tide or longer. Each depends on the tide height, weather conditions and the type of boat.
A
Anchor on the beach opposite the club house but only near the top of the tide if calm conditions.
B
Tie up to the pontoon at Uphill Pier which is accessable about 2 hours either side of high water. The pier covers on tides over 11 metres though this does not restrict using the pontoon.
C
Borrow a mooring, though you will need some means of getting ashore and access to your boat is limited to 3 hours either side of high water.
D
There are pontoon berths available at the boat yard but you must book one and access is restricted by tide height.
info
If you're looking for a long term mooring this can be arranged through the club. Almost all the river is controlled by licence and more information on this is available from the the club's Moorings Committee who issue these.
